Five Tips for Choosing a Chiropractor

TriMed Spine & Joint knows how important the decision was to finally decide that you need to see a chiropractor. For many of our patients, the decision was easy on which chiro doctor to use. For some, though there are some, there was a lot more that went into their decision. We understand this, and here are five common tips that help in aiding the decision.

1 – Check the Chiropractor’s Credentials

A chiropractor’s license is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing a chiropractor. It tells you that the chiropractor has the necessary training, skills, and experience to provide chiropractic care. Also, confirm that the chiropractor has no history of malpractice claims or disciplinary actions.

2 – Research the Chiropractor’s Experience

The more experience a chiropractor has with a condition or procedure, the better your results are likely to be. Ask how many patients with your specific condition the chiropractor has treated. If you need a specific procedure, ask how many of the procedures the chiropractor has performed and find out about complication rates.
3 – Read Over Patient Reviews
Reading what other people have to say about a chiropractor can provide insight into how the chiropractor provides care, as well as how their practice is operated. Patient reviews typically reflect people’s experience with scheduling appointments, wait times, office environment, and office staff friendliness.
4 – Ask For Referrals
Ask your primary care doctor for a referral list of chiropractors. You can also ask family, friends, and other healthcare providers for recommendations. Take the time to research the chiropractors’ credentials and experience. As you narrow down your list, call each chiropractor’s office to see if he or she is accepting new patients. If so, ask for an appointment to meet and interview the chiropractor.
5 – Evaluate Communication Style
Choose a chiropractor with whom you are comfortable talking and who supports your information needs. When you first meet the chiropractor, ask a question and notice how they respond. Does he or she welcome your questions and answer them in ways that you can understand?

These five tips can be very helpful in deciding which chiropractor you will want to see. In this case, it is TriMed Spine & Joint. Common Questions About Choosing a Chiropractor

What should I look for in a chiropractor?

Look for a current state license, a real history and physical examination before any treatment, imaging when it is clinically indicated, a written plan with a defined end point, and a willingness to refer you elsewhere if chiropractic is not the right answer.

Should a chiropractor examine me before treating me?

Yes. A first visit should include your history, a hands-on and neurological examination, and imaging if the findings call for it. Treatment that starts before any examination is a warning sign.

Is a long prepaid treatment package a red flag?

A defined plan is normal and helpful. Be cautious about signing a long prepaid contract before you have a diagnosis, and ask when you will be re-examined to confirm the plan is still appropriate.

How do I verify a chiropractor is licensed in Florida?

Use the Florida Department of Health license verification search. It shows the license status, issue date and any disciplinary history for any licensed chiropractic physician in the state.

How many visits should I expect?

It depends on the diagnosis and how long the problem has been present. Simple strains often settle in a handful of visits, while disc problems and post-accident injuries usually take longer. Ask for a number and a re-evaluation date rather than an open-ended schedule.
